These generic guys are worthless against this horde. Always getting set on fire or getting killed before getting to complete the mission. Only been able to damage or destroy 2 before getting killed. I'm playing on insane and killed 30 soldiers before the NPCs entered the fortification and ended the map. It was a decisive victory; I was set up to farm the enemy spawn points when the map ended.
